As we begin to move closer to the end of the 2017-18 school year, eighth graders are expected to display proper Trailblazer behavior in order to avoid severe consequences. On April 19, 2017, Vice Principal Young, expressed traits regarding preparation and behavior issues required before the year ends. These consequences include being removed from the promotion party, promotion ceremony, and or awards night.

At the end of the year eighth graders have an opportunity to celebrate their successful year with events such as promotion party, promotion dance, and middle school awards night. These events are held as long as proper, positive behavior is exhibited as we near the end of the year. When a lack of respect and preparation is shown in a student behavior, privileges are taken away and consequences are issued. Examples would be suspensions, detentions and parent conferences.

After spring break students are overwhelmed with excitement for summer and can tend to lose focus on the final stretch to promotion. As a result, poor behaviors tend to rise.

Janelle Casacchia, a fellow Travis Ranch eighth grader, has ideas on why students tend to fall out of place after spring break.

“I believe students behavior goes crazy after spring break because it is almost the end of year and everyone is sick and tired of homework and school.”

Campus supervisor, Ms. Gilles knows that this time of year is tough, but as leaders on campus, eighth graders should know what to expect.

“The eighth grade behavior seems to be getting worse. At this time of the year they should know what is expected,” she said.

Continuously, students are reminded of their expectations as the year comes to an end. Destructive and rebellious behaviors are intolerable and are completely unacceptable for eighth graders. These behaviors include disrespecting teachers, falling behind in school, and all forms of bullying and harassment. Throughout Mr. Young’s inspirational meeting, the eighth graders learned of the consequences for unacceptable behavior such as preventing another student’s learning and simple things such as missing class a certain number of days.

While misbehavior is not common for Travis Ranch students, it is always good to be reminded of what is expected of us, regardless of our roles. Now that students have been reminded of the expected behaviors, it is sure to be a positive conclusion to another successful year at the Ranch
