6th-8th Graders show athletic prowess by bringing home over 45 medals and ribbons.

On April 5th, the Travis Ranch track team competed in the annual Placentia middle school track meet at Shapell Stadium Yorba Linda High School. All competitors were given the chance to show their skills after weeks of hard work. After a day of exciting competition, our Travis Ranch track team brought back over 45 medals and ribbons.

Athletes from Tuffree, Bernardo, Yorba Middle, Kraemer and Valadez middle school all gave a stunning performance in representing their school. The Travis Ranch track team saw some serious contenders but did not fail to rise to the challenge.

The 8th grade 4×200 boys relay team of Vijay Arora, Logan Mills, Garrett Whelan, and Ryan Brech captured 1st with a time of 1.48.79 seconds. In addition Travis 4×200 relay teams earned 1st place in both the 8th grade girls and 7th grade boys divisions, and 2nd in the 7th grade girls division.

8th grade members finished their last year of middle school with strong performances. One ribbon winner was 8th grader Kayla King, who earned first place in the girls 100 meter dash with a time of 14.52 seconds, beating out 11 other competitors in her heat.

“I honestly didn’t expect to receive first place, but I was very happy after my win, I felt like all my hard work had paid off” she stated.

7th graders proved to that there will be competition in the year to come, after an amazing showing. As their first ever middle school track meet it was an exciting experience for all of them. 7th grader Natalie Jamison had brought home the gold after a victory in the girls 200 meter dash that timed 29.87 seconds beating Bernardo Yorba and Valadez. Jason Casacchia had also leaped 15 feet in the 7th grade boys long jump, to take 2nd place overall, out of 21 competitors.
“The track meet was a very fun experience to be able to compete with other schools,” he said.

Undoubtedly this year’s track meet is one that definitely won’t be forgotten. And next year’s competition holds an array of new student athletes ready to represent Travis Ranch.
