Sweet Treats For The Holidays

Kailey Dinh and Kahleese Howells

The time of year is approaching when you can give thanks and spend time with your loved ones. What better way than to share some fun food as well. Here are a few treats to keep in mind, for those get togethers.

The first delicious treat that is really easy to make is called chocolate acorns. For this recipe, you will need Hershey Kisses, Mini Nilla Wafers, and mini chocolate chips. First  turn the Hershey Kisses upside down and melt it to a Mini Nilla Wafer then melt mini chocolate chips on top of the Mini Nilla Wafers and serve.

Another  treat is a turkey made of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and a mini one with a bunch of Reese’s Pieces, and candy eyes. For the body of the turkey, you use the larger peanut butter cup and put 4 of the Reese’s Pieces on the edge. Next, you will take the smaller peanut butter and stick it in the middle of the larger one. With the candy eyes, you put them on the top of the smaller peanut butter cup. For the nose, you stick Reese’s Pieces sideways in the center. Then you are down and you have a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup turkey.

To make some candy pilgrim hats you will need orange frosting mini Reese’s cups and fudge striped cookie. The first step is to turn the fudge striped cookie upside down and use the orange frosting to act as the glue. The next step is to “glue” the Reese’s cup to the bottom of the fudge striped cookie. Lastly, put a line on both sides of the Reese’s to look like the stripes on a pilgrim hat. As an extra step, if you are feeling adventurous, you can put a buckle on the hat with yellow frosting in between the two lines.

For those looking for a healthier option, you need a bowl of ranch, bell peppers, carrots, cucumber, sugar snap peas, and 2 black peppercorns. First, you will need to put a bowl of ranch toward the bottom center of the flat silver plate. In the ranch, you will have to balance the top of a red bell pepper on the bell pepper. Put in almost a completely split carrot to make the nose and the two black peppercorns for the eyes. To make the turkey face then you will need to carve in the carrots to make the turkey legs. The first layer of “feathers” will be sliced up sugar peas you will have to start on the outside first because they layer up. Finally, for the final layer, slice up the red bell pepper and uncut baby carrots, and top very small slices of cucumber.

No matter what item you choose, enjoy the holiday season, and happy cooking.
