The Trade that Shook the World
March 30, 2023
On February 9th, 2023 Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks gave up guard Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, and three draft picks. According to ESPN sources, the Brooklyn Nets were indeed the winner of the trade. While others may disagree, it is undeniable that Kyrie is not getting any younger. The Nets were given a couple of young upcomers in the league that may play a big role in the Net’s future success. The future has not been written, but the Brooklyn Nets are in a good place right now.
Kyrie has always been a successful player in the league ever since his rookie year. He was drafted in 2011, won rookie of the year, NBA all-rookie team, the 2016 NBA Finals, and many more. Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks Head Coach) told the press during an interview “We have a relationship. He’s all about basketball. He wants to win. He wants to be coached.” This quote expresses Jason Kidd’s drive to coach Kyrie and lead their team to a championship. Jason also explained that Kyrie’s a winner, and he wins everywhere he goes, and that he would be a very valuable asset to add to their organization. The Dallas Mavericks hadn’t won a championship since 2011, and the team seems to think that Kyrie and Luka as a duo will bring home the gold. Now, the is will Luka and Kyrie have the same impact as the great duos that came before them.
