Middle school is not always the easiest path to navigate for young people. From classes to peer groups and just being a 12-14 year old,  can prove to be a complicated time.  Fortunately, there are valuable resources at school that can help students be more successful, the teachers.  When students have trouble with their school work, they shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help when needed. That is where teachers here come in  to give advice to students in need.

Students should cooperate with teachers at school because they have more experience, school wise compared  to young scholars and know the content they are teaching. Teachers have been through so many challenges and obstacles to succeed in school. Whether it is a veteran teacher of 20 or more years or a new teacher, they all have a perspective that can make a students life more manageable.

For example, Mrs. Sussman (L.A. and S.S.),  in her first year at Travis stresses the simplest of solutions.  “In order to avoid making mistakes always read directions and always ask questions,” she said.  “Kids make mistakes a lot because they either don’t fully understand what they are supposed to be doing or they are afraid to ask for help.” This seems simple but young students don’t always know what to ask or feel like they are not smart if they don’t know what is expected and can get distracted easily.  So students that can ask for help and self advocate will have a tendency to be more successful than students that don’t search out the information they need.

Another piece of advice to inspire students would be to get organized and stay on top of assignments. “Procrastinating and waiting until the last minute to do something so their full effort doesn’t get put into it,  would be mistakes that kids make a lot. “ This would in turn allow students to be organized in all areas of their daily life and feel more in control of their personal lives

“Procrastinating and waiting until the last minute to do something so their full effort doesn’t get put into it,  would be mistakes that kids make a lot.”

From this, students  learn that teachers can be helpful when it comes to advice and goals. It doesn’t matter what they are  going through,  teachers are always there to help them  succeed in school and achieve their very best.
